Homemade Cleopatra Costume

Throughout history women have proved to be a formidable force in society. The women's movement has helped them to show their strength among men. Cleopatra for example was a strong start in the women's movement. Women weren't known to rule kingdoms in her time, but she used her beauty, wit and charm to elevate herself over more powerful men of her time.

Cleopatra believe in the Hellenistic approach to rule. As such she often changed her look to entice men to do things that they would not have done in other times. Her changes were not drastic changes. After all, the clothing of this time was simple at best. Clothing was made to adapt to the climate which was very hot. That means that the clothing was created to allow movement of the body and of air. That being said, first start with a simple dress. Run to the thrift store and find a dress that runs to the floor in either white or black. A sheer dress would be great. Try to look for elegant dresses. A dress which has sheer material, sleeveless, and a low cut is ideal.

Next is the decoration of the neck area. you will want a collar and neck piece which is adorned with beads and jewels. You will also want to find gold and jeweled bracelets that you can wear up your arms. The hair is simple, just go on the internet and purchase a Cleopatra wig. If you have very straight hair and all black, then you may want to just dress up your own hair.

Makeup was an important aspect of an Egyptian at this time. The makeup was used to highlight facial features. Blushes and extended eyebrow makeup was common. Cleopatra makeup kits are very accessible. You may want to purchase one.

Lastly are the shoes. Remember, back in this time they did not have slings or high heeled shoes. Sandals were common place. Finish off the costume with a pair of brown classic looking sandals. Nothing to fancy. You don't want them to look out of place.
